A Mother’s Love

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Mama Bear sat on the rocking chair with the Baby Bear on her lap, flipping the pages of the book, Winnie the Pooh.

Baby Bear asked Mama Bear, ‘How much do you love me?’

Mama Bear replied, ‘I will show you tomorrow’, and kissed the forehead of the Baby Bear.

The next day, the spirit in the home was jovial because Baby Bear wore his ‘outside’ clothes. He and Mama Bear were off to an adventure to discover how much his mother loved him.

When they stepped outside the home, the sunlight streamed through the clouds. It was a day where the blue sky and the white clouds looked like a beautiful patchwork.

Mama Bear said, ‘My love for you is as high as the sky.’

‘How high is the sky?’, asked the Baby Bear.

‘How do we find out? Hmm … let us go to the clock tower and maybe from that you can touch the sky.’

Baby Bear nodded his head in agreement. For him, the clock tower at the end of their street felt like it touched the sky.

They climbed the clock tower, step by step. By the time they reached the top, they were huffing and puffing. Baby Bear raised his hand but the sky was still far away.

Baby Bear said, ‘We climbed the clock tower and still the sky is very high.’

‘And so is my love dear’, said Mama Bear and kissed the Baby Bear.

They gulped down the jar of honey that Mama Bear packed and ate a sandwich with honey. Baby Bear licked his paws, grinned, and patted his round tummy.

Baby Bear asked Mama Bear, ‘You showed me how high is your love, how wide is it?’

He opened his hands and asked, ‘Is it this much?’

Mama Bear replied, ‘Let me show you’ and then they went to the sea.

‘My love for you is as wide as the sea.’

The Baby Bear wanted to find out how wide it was. He said, ‘Maybe I can run and find out.’

He ran and ran along the coast until his little feet ached. He collapsed and said, ‘It is too wide.’

As the sun set and the night rolled over, Mama Bear and Baby Bear went home and sat on their porch.

Mama Bear said, ‘Look at all those twinkling stars. My love for you is so much that I want to give as many hugs as those stars.’

Baby Bear counted, ‘ 1 2 3 4 5 …’ and he started again, ‘1 2 3 4 5. ‘

Baby Bear said, ‘There are many fives in the sky.’

Bay Bear hugged Mama Bear and said, ‘Your love for me is as high as the sky, as wide as the sea and more than enough to give many many many hugs.’

Mama Bear kissed the Baby Bear and hugged him closer.
